Way 1: Reinstall Skype
Maybe this is the simplest and most practical method to fix Skype playback device problem. Uninstall Skype and Reinstall Skype in Windows Store (Windows 10).
Download and Reinstall Skype from Skype.com (Windows 7/8.1/Vista/XP)
Way 2: Delete Audio Device
Press Windows + X or Right-click on Start button and select Device Manager.
Navigate to Sound, video and game controllers and locate your audio device. Right-click the audio device and select Uninstall device.
Restart your computer and let Windows 10 install it automatically.
BTW, problem with playback device in Skype can also be solved by Disable and then Enable audio device.
Way 3: Set the correct playback device
Open Skype, click more > Settings > Speakers
Select the proper audio device
Way 4: Audio Troubleshooter
Press Windows + R, Enter control.exe /name Microsoft.Troubleshooting
or type Troubleshoot in taskbar search box.
Playing Audio > Run the Troubleshooter
Way 5: Update Audio Driver
Press Windows + R, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter
Double-click Sound, video and game controllers, Right-click your audio device and select Update Driver

Close Skype and Press Windows + R
Enter: %appdata%
Locate and right click the Skype folder > Rename, name it Skypeold
Restart Skype and check if it resolves the issue
Way 7: Disable and Enable your speakers
Right-click the speaker icon ( In the bottom right corner ) and select Playback devices.
Then right-click on the empty space, make sure both Show Disconnected Devices and Show Disabled Devices are checked.
Right-click your audio device and select Disable
Right-click the audio device again and select Enable
Click OK or Apply to save changes
